Dear SoTA,
SoTA has gathered a remarkable community since our first event in January 2024. It has been almost two years since then, and with the support and participation of incredible people we have had the chance to see research and ventures influenced by SoTA go out into the world. This could not have been done without our generous supporters, who provided funding, venues, catering, and most importantly: their time.
One of our supporters - Cocoa Ventures - has a special announcement. As a celebration of SoTA’s second anniversary, and the Cocoa II fund, we will be hosting a Robot Rave: a hackathon and party combination! We encourage you to participate in both, and - the afterparty at Maggie’s will also be open to non-hackathon participants. It will involve music, refreshments, and hopefully dancing robots produced at the hackathon.
For better or worse, SoTA’s events have often been on the serious side, focusing on what we think are the great untapped and underexplored opportunities for technological advancement, such as geo-engineering, robotics, mechanistic interpretability, and state capacity. This time, we want to combine technological advancement with celebrating the culture, community, and creativity of the Society.
Join us on the 17th and 18th of January for a hackathon created for celebration.
Teams will have 24 hours to bring a robot’s dance moves to life. They can use physical robots (some provided), teleoperation, AI motion models, or creative simulations.
Judging will be done at the afterparty, by creatives and technologists alike, and cash prizes available for multiple teams.
One rule: it must move to music.
